About 6wks before we called Len out from re-glaze-it,We spoke to a large window company who insisted we needed complete new windows,We simply could not afford it! we did some research and discovered the frames (UPVC) were fine.
Thats when we found Len at re-glaze-it.
Our problems were over!
Len removed and replaced a large toughened georgian barred double glazed unit and a broken obscured unit(Bathroom).
He did a first class job we would recommend re-glaze-it in a instant!

ReplyDeleteAfter searching through Google for over a week , We were left unsure and nervous about who to call regarding the replacement of our failed double glazed units .
We had previously spoken to a large window manufacturer , who stated maybe we should consider complete new windows . This was a definite No!
We had already done some research and knew our frames were actually fine , Besides we did not want any disruption and we also wanted the work to be cost effective and done in an environmentally friendly way (no need to chuck away perfectly good frames)
It was at this point we discovered Len at (RE-GLAZE-IT)
Through Google searching we came across is simple straight forward No-Nonsense web-page , his services on offer basically was filling our requirements .
After reading through the RE-GLAZE-IT Web-page , We decided to send an Email to Len , In the Email we stated our location , glazing sizes and also that we wanted planitherm Total + Low "E" type glass ,
You see we had done our research on the glass also!
Len got back to us very swiftly , Giving us a very reasonable quotation , which we accepted and awarded him with the work !
During Len's visit to our property regarding the measure-up , Right away we felt at ease with Len , he was only interested in the failed double glazed unit that we had contacted him about and although he surely seen another failed double glazed pane in the next window, he did not mention it at all , Needless to say we gave him both pieces of work to do for us !
To sum up the whole experience with Len at (RE-GLAZE-IT) , I would say the price was very fair for the work involved , he put us totally at ease and the work was completed perfectly , Obviously we would highly recommend to all and we will most certainly use Len again!
I do so hope this customer comment or review however you would like to look at it , is helpful to future people looking for Glazing assistance or a local glazier in the midlands area .

Len responded to my email enquiry in less than an hour and provided a provisional quote from my measurements that evening! He put himself out to accommodate our schedule to visit our home for a full quote. Len was completely professional, not pushy in anyway, and provided us with a reasonable price for our 7 misted up windows. Our new windows have now been fitted just one week later to our full satisfaction and we would recommend Re-Glaze-It to anyone considering using them. 5 stars!

What is a Broken Down or Misted Up Double Glazed Unit?
A Double Glazed Unit consists of two panes of glass with a void in the middle, all packaged as one single unit. Misting up of a unit is essentially where condensation creeps into the void in the middle causing an unsightly appearance. This worsens over time until you can no longer see through it clearly (see photo below). It becomes extremely apparent when the sun shines on it, just as it is painfully obvious that your windows are dirty when the sun shines directly on them.
Why Do Double Glazed Units mist up?
The main reason why a double-glazed sealed unit can mist up (or ‘break down’ as it is referred to in the trade) is due to premature failure of the perimeter seal, which is obviously dependent on how the sealed unit was originally made. Also, another reason for a double glazed unit misting up is dependant on how the framework it is fitted into was made or how the double-glazed sealed unit was fitted into the framework. Additionally, severe weather conditions such as wind and rain as well as some cleaning chemicals can have an effect on the Double Glazed unit over time.
What actually happens is the perimeter edge of the unit loses its integrity and lets in moisture somewhere. Initially it may only be visible when the sun shines directly on it and heats the moisture within drawing it upwards and thus appearing as condensation. It will however worsen over time until the unit is described as being totally broken down.
The only simple and cost effective answer is to replace the double-glazed sealed units with new ones. We are not talking about replacing the window frames themselves, just the glass (the Double glazing).
There will be no alteration to the existing framework. It is useless trying to separate the 2 glass panes to then remove the condensation, as the sealed unit is factory made with the panes bonded together to last a lifetime.

Couldn't fault Len in any way. He knew exactly what he was doing and did it efficiently when he said he would. We had a couple of sealed units in two of our windows in which condensation was forming and consequently misting up. Len ordered and fittedthe new units and we now have nice clear windows again. If you have any window problems at all you should call Len. He thoroughly deserves a 5 star rating.

My window was large and an opener so required more care. The edge fitments were difficult to remove but this was done after some trouble without any damage to them .. and Len did this twice, once to measure the glass size accurately and then to put in the new window.
